Since the 1980s, the artist has explored the computer as a creative medium, embracing new technologies including artificial intelligence. His work also engages in dialogue with art and cultural history. Though rooted in the digital, the sensory experience in physical space remains essential to Chevalier’s practice.
The exhibition presents around 120 works from across the artist’s career. On view are sculptures and drawings created with 3D printing and robotics, as well as videos and installations where visitors interact through movement.
A particular highlight is In Vitro Pixel Flowers: here, adults and children are invited to experiment with virtual blossoms, both online and on site, which then bloom in a digital greenhouse within the exhibition space. Complementing Chevalier’s works is a selection of natural history objects. All this results in a multilayered experience that is at once physical and emotional—an invitation to observe, participate, and marvel.
